Life in Modern Japan II

Course Description:

The goal of this class is to enable students to explain life in Japan in their own words. We will alternate between light and more serious cultural and social topics. In particular, we will think about how Japan is shown in overseas media compared to actual daily life in Japan. Students will prepare a presentation script each week, then choose one script to present to the class about every two weeks.



Learning outcomes:


  • Learn how to explain Japanese customs andculture in simple English

  • Build confidence in speaking ability

  • Practice giving original shortpresentations in English



Teacher's comment:

  • Schedule may change.

  • Points will be deducted for poor attitude (frequent tardiness etc.) and/or breaking class rules (copying presentation scripts etc.).

  • Lecture notes, assignments and homework will be posted on the SFC-SFS course page.

In particular, we will compare Japan's customs and problems with those of other countries.
