Taking part in discussions and debates

Course Description:
This class is designed for students who are interested in taking part in group discussionsand debates to enhance their language skill as well as their critical thinking andcommunication skills.
In each class you will have the opportunity to work with different members to exchange ideasstarting with general topics then gradually moving on to more controversial topics. Byengaging in group discussions, you will be able to learn to express your ideas, agree anddisagree politely, ask relevant questions and handle tough questions, as a result learn tospeak more articulately. By engaging in debates you will acquire argumentative skills;Learning to examine two sides of the argument and learning to express your opinions in apersuasive manner. Since you will be required to pay close attention to your members to askquestions, give feedback and to rebut during discussions and debates, your listening skill willalso improve.
Outside of class you will be assigned weekly journals or essays to reexamine andsummarize your ideas logically and clearly, this task will help you improve your writing skills.
Learning outcomes:
- Gain confidence using the language, become less hesitant to speak up.
- Improve overall communication skills, especially nonverbal communication skills.
- Learn to think logically and critically.
- Learn to ask relevant questions and give positive feedback.
