Broken Mirrors, Falling Stars: Symbols and Superstitions

Course Description:
In this class, we will discuss symbols and superstitions from aroundthe world, and how they influence books and film. We will watch parts ofsome films in the class and students will discuss the superstitious andsymbolic imagery they find in these films.
This is an active participation class: students will need to join in thediscussion every day for participation credit. Unless you are making apresentation, or specific permission is given, the use of PCs and smartphonesis not allowed. Paper and electronic dictionaries are allowed, butsmartphone-based dictionaries are prohibited.
Learning outcomes:
After this class, you will be able to recognize some of the morecommon imagery used in various media and understand where thosesymbols came from.
