科目概要

Las Comunidades Nikkei en Latinoamérica y Japón

En este curso exploraremos las comunidades Nikkei en Latinoamérica desde una perspectiva histórica y cultural. Los estudiantes analizarán los antecedentes históricos de la migración japonesa en Latinoamérica, su asentamiento y el desarrollo de la comunidad. El análisis de los procesos históricos permitirán a los estudiantes comprender las características contemporáneas de las comunidades Nikkei en diferentes sociedades latinoamericanas. En la segunda parte del curso examinaremos la llamada “migración de retorno” a Japón. Este análisis tiene como objetivo entender las minorías étnicas, cuya migración temporal se ha tornado gradualmente en una estadía permanente.

A lo largo del curso consideraremos las principales causas y efectos de la migración, las características culturales de los inmigrantes y sus familias, así como los efectos de su asentamiento en la educación de sus hijos. Adicionalmente, discutiremos la identidad de los inmigrantes y la preservación (o falta de) su lengua de herencia.

The Nikkei Communities in Latin America and Japan

In this course we will explore the Nikkei communities in Latin America from a historical and cultural perspective. Students will analyze the historical background of the Japanese migration to Latin America, the settlement and community development. The analysis of the historical processes will enable the students to understand the contemporary features of Nikkei communities in different Latin American societies. In the second part of the course, we will examine the so-called “return migration” to Japan. This analysis aims to understand these ethnic minorities, whose temporary migration has gradually turned into a permanent stay.

Along the course we aim to consider the main causes and effects of migration, the cultural characteristics of the migrants and their families, and the effects of their settlement on their children education. Additionally, we will discuss the migrants’ identity and the maintenance (or non) of their language heritage.

A través de este curso los estudiantes serán capaces de:
a) Desarrollar y expandir sus conocimientos sobre los inmigrantes en Latinoamérica y las comunidades Nikkei en Japón, su cultura y educación.
b) Analizar el rol de la historia y asuntos socio-económicos en el desarrollo de las minorías étnicas contemporáneas.
c) Mejorar las habilidades lingüísticas en español.
d) Incrementar la comunicación y el pensamiento crítico.

Este curso se enseñará en español y tiene como objetivo incrementar la confianza de los estudiantes en el uso del español y mejorar sus habilidades escritas y orales. Los temas seleccionados en este curso servirán para expandir el vocabulario y conocimientos de los estudiantes. Las asignaciones escritas y presentaciones se harán en español.

Through this course the students should be able:
a) To develop and broaden their knowledge of Japanese migrants in Latin America and the Nikkei communities in Japan, their culture and education.
b) To analyze the role of history and socio-economic issues in the development of contemporary ethnic minorities.
c) To improve their Spanish language skills.
d) To enhance their communication and critical thinking skills.

This course will be taught in Spanish and aims at enhancing the confidence of the students and enabling them to improve their written and communication language skills. The selected topics included in this course will serve to increase the students’ vocabulary and knowledge in the target language. The written assignments and presentations will be done in Spanish.
