都市というテーマに関心を持っていること。期末試験はオンラインで実施予定であるが（7/30時点での判断）、Covid-19の状況に応じて変更もありうる。SFC-SFSからのメールを定期的に確認すること。 Whoever is interested in the theme "city" is welcome. Final exam will be conducted online, but it is subject to change due to various circumstances. Please check E-Mails via SFC-SFS regularly for future updates. |

科目概要
都市は歴史上、社会の変動が最も顕在化した空間である。本授業では、18世紀後半に始まり、20世紀に至るまで進展した都市化という現象に着目し、政治、経済、社会、文化といったさまざまな側面から都市の成立・発展過程を追う作業を通じて、都市という空間が直面する諸課題について考察していく。事例の対象とするのは、近・現代ヨーロッパや近世・近代日本である。
本授業は基本的に講義形式で行うが、授業中に配布する地図や史資料を分析し、意見や感想を求めることがある。積極的に取り組み、発言することが望ましい。
Cities have been the spaces where social changes have been most apparent throughout the history. This class focuses on the "urbanization" that began in the late 18th century and continued through the 20th century. By tracing the process of formation and development of the city from various aspects such as politics, economics, society and culture, we will be able to understand how the city was formed and consider the challenges facing the space of the city with special reference to modern/contemporary Europe and early modern/modern Japan.
The class will be conducted in a lecture style, but students will analyze maps and historical materials, and will be asked to submit their opinions and impressions. It is desirable to be active in the class.

提出課題・試験・成績評価の方法など
授業中の取り組み（50%）、期末試験（50%、オンラインで実施予定 ※7/30時点の判断）で総合的に評価します。
Active participation in lecture (50%) and final exam (50%, final exam will be conducted online. *last updated 30th July).
履修上の注意
(1) 初回の講義には必ず出席してください。欠席する場合は、必ず事前に担当者に連絡すること。事後にご連絡いただいた場合、その後の履修は可能ですが、初回は欠席扱いとします。
(2) 基本的に講義形式で進めておきますが、履修者の皆さんに地図・史資料の分析や意見・感想を求めることがあります。積極的に取り組んでください。こういった授業中の取り組みも評価の対象とします（「主題と達成目標/授業の手法など」および「提出課題・試験・成績評価の方法など」を参照のこと）。

第2回 都市化とは何か
[What is the "urbanization"?]
都市化（Verstaedterung）と都市社会化（Urbanisierung）の違いについて学ぶ。
We learn about the "urbanization".
第3回 二重革命
[Dual Revolution]
都市と工業化・民主化の関係について扱う。
We consider the relationship between cities and industrialization and democratization.
第4回 都市化の諸相①
[Positive aspects of the urbanization]
雇用、住宅供給、交通、通信、教育、家族生活、余暇等、都市化に伴って生じたさまざまな変化を扱う。
We deal with many changes that have occurred as a result of urbanization, including employment, housing supply, transportation, communication, education, family life, and leisure time.
第5回 都市化の諸相②
[Negative aspects of the urbanization]
公害や劣悪な衛生環境、貧困等、都市が直面した諸問題（都市問題）やそれに対する諸政策（都市政策）について扱う。
We deal with urban problems faced by cities, such as pollution, poor sanitation, poverty, and urban policies to address them.
第6回 イギリスの諸都市
[British cities]
イギリスにおける都市の成立・発展過程を追う。事例の対象とするのは、ロンドン、リバプール、マンチェスター、バーミンガム、グラスゴー等である。
We trace the process of formation and development of British cities.
第7回 多民族国家の中の都市
[A city in a multi-ethnic nation]
多民族国家の中の都市の成立・発展過程を追う。事例の対象とするのはウィーンである。
We trace the process of formation and development of a city in a multi-ethnic nation with special reference to Vienna.
第8回 都市と移住
[Cities and migration]
ヨーロッパ内外の移住とその背景について学ぶ。
We learn about migration and its background in and outside Europe.
第9回 都市と多様性
都市におけるさまざまな社会集団について扱う。
We consider different social groups in the city.
第10回 イスラーム都市
[Islamic cities]
イスラーム世界の中核をなす5地域を事例としながら、イスラーム世界における都市の成立・発展過程を追う。
We trace the process of formation and development of Islamic cities.
