科目概要

This is an introductory course on evidence-based policy with a focus on health. The focus of this course will be on how to read or analyze evidence. The goal of this course is strengthened "evidence literacy" to be able to contribute to (health and social) equity, through policies, program and project management and communication.

授業シラバス

主題と目標/授業の手法など

This class aims to provide future practitioners (you!) what you need to know about various research designs and methods so that you can: determine which interventions, programs, policies, and assessment tools are supported by the best evidence and find as well as critically appraise qualitative and quantitative research studies in seeking evidence to answer different kinds of evidence-based practice questions.

This course is part of the Health Science perspective at SFC and will focus on health related issues, but is open to anyone interested in evidence-based policy and practices.
Classes will be conducted in a graduate school- or advanced seminar-style which means a lot of reading and hands-on exercises.

提出課題・試験・成績評価の方法など

Presentation of one chapter of textbook in class. Draft presentation must be shared with the lecturer at least one day before the class. (30%)

Participation in class discussions and exercises(20%)

Systematic Review (50%) (groupwork is preferred but individual themes are also welcome)

履修上の注意

You will be required to read one chapter and review the exercises of that chapter of the textbook even if you are not presenting. Some chapters from the middle to the end are long and may be difficult, so plan ahead.

If you are presenting a chapter of the textbook, send your draft presentation to the faculty-in-charge on Wednesday, the day before the presentation.

Group meetings on the Systematic Review will be held in-class but actual literature search, article reading, analysis and writing will require individual time out-of-class.
