科目概要
21世紀の都市は様々な課題を抱えており、人々は多様な方法でそれに対処しようとしています。日本においては全体の人口が減少し高齢化が進むなか、地方の衰退、郊外住宅地の変化、少子化などが顕著であり、世界においては根強い人種差別、広がる経済格差、そして紛争や経済格差による移民の増加などの問題が都市のありかたに大きな影響を及ぼします。さらに、今学期では感染症拡大下における都市の在り方についても考えていきたいと思います。本授業ではこのような状況下で問題を様々な角度から認識し、どのような住宅・都市、社会政策が必要とされるのかについて考えます。
Cities in the 21st century have various issues, and we are trying to deal with them in various ways.
In Japan, as the overall population declines and the aging is rapidly progressing, the decline of rural regions, the change of suburban residential areas, etc. are remarkable. At the same time, in the world, persistent racial and ethnic discrimination/ conflicts, expanding economic disparity, the rapid increase in immigration influence the cities' living conditions. In addition, ongoing pandemic severely affects the lives in cities.
With these conditions in our minds, this class will explore the problem from various angles and discuss what kinds of housing, urban, and social policy are needed in our cities.

21世紀の都市は様々な課題を抱えており、人々は多様な方法でそれに対処しようとしています。日本においては全体の人口が減少し高齢化が進むなか、地方の衰退、郊外住宅地の変化、少子化などが顕著であり、世界においては根強い人種差別、広がる経済格差、そして紛争や経済格差による移民の増加などの問題が都市のありかたに大きな影響を及ぼしています。本授業ではこのような状況下で問題を様々な角度から認識し、どのような住宅・都市政策が必要とされるのかについて考えます。
下記の中から学生の興味にそっていくつかの主題テーマを設定、事前調査、文献購読により問題の概要を把握し、学生それぞれが発表を行う中で望まれる政策について議論を深めていきます。

Cities in the 21st century have various issues, and we are trying to deal with them in various ways.
In Japan, as the overall population declines and the aging is rapidly progressing, the decline of rural regions, the change of suburban residential areas, the declining birthrate, etc. are remarkable. At the same time, in the world, persistent racial and ethnic discrimination/ conflicts, expanding economic disparity, the rapid increase in immigration influence the cities' living conditions.
With these conditions in our minds, this class will explore the problem from various angles and think about what kinds of housing, urban, and social policy are needed in our cities.
In the class, we will set up several subject themes according to the students' interests (examples are shown below), and try to grasp the outline of the problems by reading assigned materials, lectures, and students' presentations. Then we turn into the discussion about what solutions/policies are needed.
