科目概要

このクラスでは、多言語比較とそこからの一般化をめざす、言語類型論の基礎と応用について考えます。特に、構文知識に焦点を当てて、さまざまな言語でのコミュニケーションを行うさいに、どのような知識・方略が動員されているのかを考えていきます。

In this class, we will learn linguistic typology, which practices cross-linguistic comparison and pursues generalizations from there. Specifically we focus on our knowledge of grammatical constructions, and explore the knowledge / strategies employed in the communication process in different languages.

世界には多くの言語があり、興味深い多様性を示しますが、そのバリエーションはランダムではなく、一定の法則性がこれまで明らかになっています。この授業では、言語類型論の知見を生かしながら、言語の構造、機能、発達について考えていきます。

There are thousands of languages in the world and they exhibit wonderful diversity. But at the same time, the variation is not totally random, and previous research has revealed certain regularities out of variations. In this class, we shall draw upon findings from linguistic typology, and learn about the structure, function, and development of language(s).

第1回 言語研究および言語類型論についての導入
[Intro to linguistic linguistics and linguistic typology]

「言語学」とは？　言語の「類型」とは？；地理的分類、歴史的分類、構造的分類

What is "linguistics"? What does linguistic "typology" mean?; Areal, historical, and structural classification of languages

第2回 世界の言語はいくつあるか？
[How many languages are there in the world?]

なぜ言語を数えることが難しいのか；言語と方言；孤立言語；類型化のための「語類」の概念

Why is it difficult to count the number of languages?; Languages and dialects; isolate languages; the notion of "language genera" for typological study

第3回 基本文型を問い直す
[Basic sentence patterns: a re-examination]

自動詞的概念、他動詞的概念、概念構造と統語構造の対応関係；フレームと構文；基本語順と特殊語順

Intransitive vs. transitive concepts; correspondence between conceptual structure and syntactic structure; frames and constructions; basic word order and special word order

古典的ケース：親族語彙、色彩語彙、空間語彙；より精細な対照研究：テキストマイニングによる感情語彙分析

Classical cases: kinship terms, color terms, spatial terms; more recent and fine-grained contrastive study: analysis of emotion terms based on text mining
