科目概要

　現代社会において生じる諸現象は、潜在的であるか、顕在的であるかを問わず、様々な形で宗教と関係を持っている。この講義ではこの関係をとらえ、考察する視点を獲得することを目的とする。
　前半では、宗教的要素が現代社会に浮上する諸事象を事例に、特に明治以降の日本の近代化がキリスト教文化圏の多様な影響を受容することで、どのようにその後の価値観を形成してきたのかを捉え直す。
　後半では、特に日本国内に目を向け、後半では、仏教や儒教、ヒンドゥー教などに目を向け、それらの諸宗教が現代社会にもたらす効果や問題を考察していく。
　この講義では、いかなる宗教も、支持したり、批判したりするものではない。あくまで学術的、社会学的見地にもとづいてすすめていくつもりである。

　 In this lecture, we will look at religion from a social science perspective. Whether easily recognizable or not, many phenomena in our modern society are closely connected to religion. This lecture aims to provide students with the necessary skills to analyze the relationship between societal phenomena and religion.
　In the first half of the lecture, we look at several examples of religious elements apparent in modern society and examine how Japanese values took form since the influx of Christian culture in the Meiji period and during the modernization of Japan.
　In this lecture, we neither support nor criticize any religion. We aim to discuss religion purely from an academic point of view.

第1回導入：本講義の流れ
[Introducion]

本講義の意義および全体の流れについて確認する。宗教を考えることは何を意味するのか、宗教は私たちの日常生活とどのように関わっているのだろうか。この問題提起を起点に、本講義の視点を概観する。

The aims and structure of this lecture will be explained. What does it mean to think about religion? How does religion relate to our daily lives? Focusing on these questions, we will outline the perspective of this lecture.

第2回日本の近代化とキリスト教的要素
[The Modernization of Japan and Christian cultures]

明治以降の日本における西欧化政策の導入と近代化のプロセスを、キリスト教文化圏の宗教的要素の受容プロセスの観点から捉え直す。

We will re-examine the westernization and modernization of Japan since the Meiji period, by focusing on the influence of religious elements from Christian cultures.

第3回プロテスタンティズムの視点
[The aspect of Protestantism ]

ヨーロッパ社会におけるキリスト教の位置付けを確認する。そのなかでも、プロテスタンティズムとは何か、という視点を、M.ウェーバーの説を参照しながらキリスト教社会の世界観について鑑みる。

What is Protestantism? Referring to a theory by Max Weber, we will discuss the worldview of Christian society.

[The Modernization of Japan and Protestantism 1]

プロテスタンティズムの新たな世界観の提示とは何を指すのだろうか？カトリック宗派とプロテスタント宗派の違いとは何か？J. ミルトンのテキストを参照しながら、聖書のテキストに触れてみる。明治以降の日本における西欧化政策の導入と近代化のプロセスを、キリスト教文化圏の宗教的要素の受容プロセスの観点から捉え直す。

What does the new worldview of Protestantism implicate? What is the difference between Catholicism and Protestantism? We will touch upon the Bible and reference texts from John Milton.

[The Modernization of Japan and Protestantism 2]

日本の近代化を担った明治期の日本国内における教育の現場「私塾」や人材育成を、宗教的要素の関わりの視点から捉え直す。

We will examine the relationship between religious elements and education, as well as human resource development in Japan that played an important role in the modernization of Japan.

日本近代化のリーダーシップを担った派遣留学生たちの、西欧キリスト教文化圏における行動の軌跡を取り上げながら、あらためて近代化プロセスを振り返る。

In this lecture we will review the process of modernization by focusing on the activities of Japanese students dispatched to Western, Christian countries. The students played an important role in the modernization of Japan,

[Buddhism and Japanese society]

日本人の宗教意識は薄いといわれながら、しかし宗教的なるものは、現代日本における社会生活のさまざまなレベルに浸透している。ここでは、宗教意識に関する調査データなどを用いながら、現代の日本との関わりについて概観する。

We will consider Religion and religious awareness in Japan.

第8回宗教倫理と行為
[Religious Ethics and Behavior]

M.ウェーバーの宗教社会学を手がかりに、仏教、儒教、ヒンドゥーなどアジアの宗教と、社会との関わり方を整理する。

Based on Max Weber’s sociology of religion, in this lecture we will think about the relationship between religion and society as well as religion and the individual.

[The worldview of Buddhism]

仏教の生死観（来世観）は、日本人に深く浸透し、行動規範として作用するとともに、キリスト教（プロテスタンティズム）のそれと対蹠的な面をもつ。この世界観を探訪する。

We will discuss about the worldview of Buddhism in Japan.

近世以降、仏教に基づく現世観は変化を見せる。同じ一つの思想から、別様の現世観が生み出されるそのありようを考察する。

[Confucianism in China]

近年、中国において、宗教を渇望する人々の活動が注目を集めている。2000年以降の儒教再評価の動きから始まり今日に至るまでの、中国における宗教のありかたを追う。

We will look at recent trends in China of reevaluating Confucianism and the intentions and anxieties of the Chinese government in the background.
