Today's Issues
Becoming an Active Listener

Course Description:
The aim of this course is to helpstudents develop active listening skills. The course uses a step-by-step method that allows the learner to evaluate their own individual progress. In addition to listening activities, students will also practice simple speechmaking techniques.
Learning outcomes:
Activities of this classare carefully designed to help students develop other skills that include grammar, vocabulary and short presentations.By the end of the term, students will have acquired the communication tools that go along with listening skills.
Teacher's comment:
The class is rigorous but fun.(S) is given to those students who: 1) have attended all the classes;and 2) achieved 95 percent of overall points.

Reviewing the basics of active listening skills
Students learn and practice the art of asking and answering questions.Homework: Students start preparing for self-introductory speech to take place in week 3.

Students simulate conversations related to a first day at school using pre-recorded materials.

Speaking and Listening Practice Session
Students make brief introductory speeches followed by Q&A that mirrors the skills learned in week 1.

Listening with visuals: Views of Japan
Students practice the skills of listening through recorded images.

TOIEC Listening Skills Practice
Students practice the skills of prediction using photos, the skimming of a text and the meaning of factual questions.

Hard Work
Using pre-recorded materials, students simulate conversations related to part time jobs.

Mini-Test Challenge Session
Students check their individual progress through a series of mini-tests to be followed by a review of points which they had difficulty with.

The Art of Preparing a Standard Speech
Students learn how to prepare and deliver a standard speech. Homework: Students start preparing for a standard speech for week 10.

Listening with visuals: Marriage
Students practice the skills of listening through recorded images.
第10回 #10
Speaking and Listening Practice Session
Students make standard speeches on topics previously discussed. Speeches are followed by Q&A that mirrors the skills learned in week 1.

TOIEC Listening Skills Practice
Students learn how to distinguish words as well as the various ways of answering ‘what’ and ‘direct’ questions.

Fashion and Clothes Trend
Students simulate conversations related to fashion using pre-recorded materials.

Students check their individual progress through a series of mini-tests to be followed by a review of points which they had difficulty with.
