主題と目標/授業の手法など

In the "Research Foundations" course, students will re-evaluate and reorganize their research proposals and learn about the design and management of research projects in the Master's Program. This course is designed primarily for students who are conducting research from a social science approach (or who would like to think about their themes from a social science approach).

In the Fall semester, we will discuss the basics of research design, ethical considerations, and other related topics, mainly based on Leavy's /"Research Design"/ (2017) and then review the five research approaches. They are quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, arts-based, and community-based participatory research. Research themes and methods are interdependent, and thus the strength and uniqueness of an investigation can only be achieved when we combine them in a balanced and proper way.
Students will explore their topic from five different approaches, think about the data acquisition and methods that may be appropriate, and speculate upon these five different "stories." Students will then exchange ideas and discuss how to design their research projects.

In the second half of the course, we will examine the possibilities of using digital media (mobile media) for research, referring to practical examples. Lectures are fully online.
I will provide a detailed schedule and reading list before the course begins.
